I’m a Loser Baby

At the 57th Grammy Awards show Feb. 8, there were a lot of new breakout artists like Sam Smith, Iggy Azalea, and Sia. There was also a little bit of drama, but other than that, this year’s Grammys show was just boring.

There were some great performances at the Grammys. Some of the more notable moments of the night include Sia’s performance of “Chandelier,” which felt more like a music video than a live performance, Beyoncé’s slaying rendition of the traditional church hymn “Take My Hand, Precious Lord,” Madonna’s fierce performance of “Living For Love,” and Pharrell’s weird “Happy” remix.

Honestly, I expected there to be more excitement and a greater wow-factor at the Grammys. Despite the amazing talent, most of the performances were underwhelming and forgettable. Lady Gaga collaborated with Tony Bennett to sing “Cheek to Cheek,” and although it was nice, it wasn’t exciting. The most shocking part of the performance was that Lady Gaga actually looked like a normal human being.

My favorite part of the night was when Beck was awarded Album of the Year. I love it when the unexpected happens, but I just really like Beck. I also really like Kanye West, but I was so appalled when he walked onto the stage in protest of his victory. Beck didn’t even look like he cared though, and he was in awe of just receiving the Grammy.

I was also shocked that Sam Smith won four Grammys for his song “Stay With Me.” I knew it was a popular song, but I didn’t think it was Grammy-worthy. When he performed the song with Mary J. Blige, though, it was amazing. It was a really beautiful and soulful moment.

Despite the mood of the night being kind of serious most of the time, it was still worth watching for the highs, lows, and the drama. I’m looking forward to next year’s Grammy Awards, and hopefully there will be more excitement.
