The election for the freshman Student Council officers has concluded, with the winners announced: Macey Mercer as president, Weston Fleming as vice president, Megan Brown as secretary and Brooklyn Davis as treasurer.
All four of the new council members said they were happy when they got the results. Davis said it completely flipped her day around.
“I was so happy, that made my whole day,” Davis said. “I was having a horrible day that day, and my day got completely better after that.”
The officers had differing reasons for why they decided to run. Fleming said he ran because he wanted to be in a leadership position.
“I feel like I could lead this class very well and I like to be involved,” Fleming said. “I didn’t want to go for president because I didn’t want to go that high, but I still wanted to be in leadership.”
Meanwhile, Davis said she always ended up as treasurer in clubs during middle school, which lead to her running for Student Council treasurer.
“Every year I’ve been in a club or something, I’ve always ran for treasurer,” Davis said. “I think the responsibility of it is very intriguing to me, like knowing I handle the money. I like having a big responsibility on me, and I feel like it’s a really big role to take.”
Brown said that while she hasn’t done much yet, she’s excited for the year ahead.
“I haven’t been able to do a ton yet, but I feel like there will be a lot of cool things this school year,” Brown said. “I want to just help serve the school and do cool projects for the community.”
Although not much has happened yet, Davis said she’s helped on the homecoming committee.
“I’m in Hoco committee right now, and I’ve helped a lot with the homecoming this year,” Davis said. “We create posters, I helped with ideas and funding for Hoco, I helped with decorating everything.”
The new Student Council members have four years to look forward to. Mercer said she was hopeful for the years to come.
“I know they’re going to be scary, but I’m excited for them,” Mercer said. “It’s our high school experience and we’ll never get it again.”
