After Jostens delivered caps and gowns to campus on Tuesday, April 4, seniors are looking towards the finish line as graduation approaches and is set for Saturday, May 27, at 10 a.m. at the Dickies Arena.

With about 520 students set to walk the stage, valedictorian Reaghan Jones said the excitement is tangible across the campus.

“I’m so excited,” Jones said. “I’m going to A&M with my sister next year, so I’m excited to be there. I want to go into architecture. I’m excited to start that [and] see where that takes me.”

While seniors are anticipating graduation, they are equally grateful the pressures of high school are behind them, and Jones said this year has been stressful trying to decide which colleges to go to and getting scholarships.

According to the Eagle Mountain-Saginaw ISD Education Foundation, seniors earned $49,000 from this organization alone, which senior Jalen Tyler said will help make the jump to college a smoother transition.

“Board is my biggest problem right now especially paying for my dormitory,” Tyler said. “its definitely going to help out with that”

Senior Connor Neuse said the last four years have been fun, but he has advice for underclassmen.

“Take things slow because it goes by very fast,” Neuse said. “I won’t miss high school in general, but I will miss the people.”

senior government teacher Phil Shwartz said that even though he only has his seniors for a semester he will miss the bonds and relationship with his students

“I’m very excited that they get to go and explore and start to build their life,” senior government teacher Phil Shwartz said. “It’s always a good time. It’s a scary time, but it’s always a good time to see them be able to spread their wings.”

Although the upcoming change might be intimidating to some, Jones said that she’s looking forward to the future.

“I’m going to miss high school, but I’m excited for graduation coming up,” Jones said.
